Just finished an interview with the folks at BeDynamik. There website features a section called “Duval Talent” that features artists, musicians, poets, and local talents from all over Duval county. I had a lot of fun doing the interview and appreciate them taking interest in what I do. They didn’t quite get the spelling of my last name correct(Gray not Grey) but, it’s all good. Check out the entire interview here…http://bedynamik.com/?p=833 .-

Just sold another one of my “bigger” pieces up at Avondale Artworks here in Jacksonville. This painting is titled “Fill this Emptiness”. I originally did the painting for the Cummer Art Museum during the Folio Weekly artist invitational. I have to admit that I’m happy and sad to see this one go. This piece is one of my favorites to date and it is also one of my larger pieces. Thanks to Ken @ Avondale Artworks and a big thanks to the person who took this baby home. Happy Holidays!!-B.G.

Just made my first sale out at my new home gallery out at Avondale Artworks. This piece sold on Saturday right after I dropped off a new batch of paintings to the gallery. Im now featured in the front window of the gallery and according to Ken( the president of the gallery) the response has been insane. Lots of people who are maybe not so familiar with me or my work are dropping by every day to see what Im all about. Very good news! Its stuff like this that really motivate me to keep pushing forward. During this month I plan on busting some butt to have all new work for the gallery for December’s artist reception on the first friday of the month. Speaking of which, Avondale Artworks will have an artist reception for all the artists involved with the gallery every first Friday of each month…so, Ill be out at the gallery on this Friday 11/5 from 6-9 if ya wanna hang out or just meet me for the first time. Avondale Artworks is a great gallery and Ken is super awesome and I appreciate him giving me a shot. -Ill post a pic up real soon of a brand new piece I just did for the gallery( my pc at home is down, should be working tonight).- Peace.-BG

Heres a snazzy pic of the piece I did for the “Totem if ya Got Em” show that went down at Bogda Gallery this past weekend. Im going to have prints available by the end of the week. The painting is 9×12, acrylic, on gallery wrapped canvas. It’s still up for sale for just $100.00 at Bogda. If anyone is interested in making a purchase just drop me a line and we can arrange something. The show was a great success and I gotta hand it to my man Jack Diablo for organizing a great show and a good time had by all. Thanks to Joy at Bogda for letting us artists use the gallery to host these shows. We couldnt do these shows without her! Hollah!-B Gray

Im looking forward to the new show coming up at Bogda Gallery here in Jacksonville. Totem if ya Got ‘Em is the brain child of my friend Jack Diablo. The idea is to paint our “spirit animals” or Totems in a group show thats truly going to be a magical experience! The line up of artists is pretty damn solid. Cant wait to see what everyone cooks up for the show. Im working on a half octopus, half rabbit, half skeleton, creature for the show. Ill post pics as soon as I get some time to settle down. Started painting it up on Sunday…should be done tonight. Stay tuned folks!-B.
NEW Art Work on eBay!
Published September 25, 2009 Uncategorized ClosedTags: art, art work, artist, b gray, brian gray, for sale, lowbrow art, lowbrow artist, pop art, selling, surreal
Whats up peeps! Brian Gray here! Just posted up my new piece as part of my weekly( more like bi-weekly) paintings for eBay. The piece I did here is on 9×12, heavy weight, bristol paper and looks great. I call it “SiLeNcE”. I have only worked with water colors a few times and I had a lot of fun just experimenting with this one. For the most part the painting is all water color. You can also see paint pen, pencil, and a little bit of acrylic paint. I just had fun playing around with different mediums. The auction on eBay will run for the next five days and bidding starts off at the usual 9.00. Here is the link to the auction. Check it out!-

New Clothing Line? Maybe?

A new Brian Gray clothing line might be a bit of a stretch…or is it? All I can say for sure is Ive been screwing around with some screen printing ideas for a while and am really starting to take it serious. This is really my first attempt at doing any type of screen print onto clothing. I actually didnt go the photo emulsion route…instead I just did things old school and hand cut a stencil and fixed it to my screen. Pain in the butt for sure but, I always enjoy working with the exacto blade in hand. I think my next attempt is gonna be with drawing fluid and screen filler. Eventualy Ill lead up to emulsion but, for now this will do nicely. I think it turned out pretty good…for a first time experience. Last time I did anything like this was in high school( some 14yrs ago). Theres a lot Im learning from friends, fellow artists, and through my own trial and errors. I really want to get into some more clothing design, if ya cant tell. I have a few things cooking on the burner for me to get serious about printing a lot more work on tee shirts. With my style of work, it just makes sense that I get more involved in screen printing. Keep them eyes peeled….Im on the move.

I am in MAD Magazine!
Published August 19, 2009 Uncategorized 1 CommentTags: art, art show, art work, artist, brian gray, lady in gray, lowbrow, mad generation, mad magazine
I remember when I got an email from MAD Magazine in regards to using an image from a show I did in Atlanta I thought it was a joke. I did a painting called “Spy vs Spy vs Spy” in honor of the infamous Lady in Gray and the black and white spies. The art show itself was called “The MAD Generation” and took place at East Atlanta Tattoo Gallery and boasted about 50+ pieces of lowbrow art work celebrating everything that is MAD Magazine. Its really surreal to see something I did as an artist show up in a magazine that I have emulated so many times when learning how to illustrate. I cant think of how many times I have drawn the Spy VS Spy guys or have tried to draw characters created by artists like Sergio Aragones, Don Edwing, Don Martin, Mort Drucker, and Al Jaffee to name just a few. Its not like I did an actual comic strip in the mag but, its still very awesome to see my art work in a magazine that inspired me in so many ways. Thanks MAD for truly blowing my mind!!! The latest issue of MAD( Issue 501) just came out on 08/12.-B.G.
